The Cost, Care, and Calling
The tabernacle’s lampstand required Israel to provide pure oil of pressed olives—a costly sacrifice requiring the community to gather, crush, and press olives in the desert, teaching that following God involves real personal cost. Aaron and his sons were called to maintain this light from evening until morning with consistency and care, requiring the body to work together and strengthen one another, just as believers today must assemble and support each other to keep their spiritual light burning brightly. This statute forever points to believers’ calling as the light of the world—through abiding in God’s Word, assembling with the church, and acting with good works, we testify to future generations and shine Christ’s light into our families, cities, and nations.
