The Secret to Joseph’s Life
In this Sunday message, Pastor Jason Duff turns to Jacob's final blessing over Joseph in Genesis 49:22-26 — specifically the phrase "a fruitful bough by a well" — to unpack what genuine success looks like for a believer, walking through five categories of spiritual fruit the Bible identifies (winning souls, holiness, giving, good works, and worship) and showing how Joseph's life demonstrated every one of them, while also demonstrating the three results of that fruitfulness: God was glorified, others were benefited, and Joseph himself was deeply blessed. The heart of the message is the "secret" Pastor Jason promises and then deliberately gives away: there is no secret — Joseph was simply a branch planted by a well, with his roots going down deep into his relationship with God, and just as a fruit tree doesn't strain or strive to produce apples but simply bears fruit when it has good soil, sunlight, and water, so believers bear spiritual fruit naturally when they plant themselves daily in the Word of God, are refreshed by the living water of the Holy Spirit, and soak in the sunlight of His presence in worship. The message closes with a straightforward, practical call to stop striving and start planting — to get into the Word every day, to ask God each morning to empty you of yourself and fill you fresh with His Spirit, and to come to His presence not just to attend church but to actually soak it in — with the promise that if you do those three things, the fruit will come, because that is simply what God designed you to do.
