Rob Salvato works through Exodus 10:21-12 in this Wednesday night study — from the 9th plague's three days of palpable darkness that silenced Ra, Egypt's supreme sun god, to the full institution of the Passover in chapter 12, where he traces each detail as a precise type of the cross: the lamb without blemish, killed on the 14th of Nisan, its blood applied to doorposts in the shape of a cross, and a three-step progression in the text from "a lamb" to "the lamb" to "your lamb." Central to the message is the distinction between the life and death of Christ: it wasn't the life of the lamb that saved Israel from judgment but the death, illustrated by the king who wrapped his own body over his guilty mother to absorb her punishment — and that substitution only takes effect when the blood is personally applied, which is why it's never enough to admire Jesus without receiving him. The study closes with two pictures of the Christian life: the Feast of Unleavened Bread (Passover always comes first — we don't clean ourselves up to come to Christ, sanctification follows salvation), and Israel's first wilderness stop at Succoth (tents/booths), the reminder that we are pilgrims purposefully heading toward a homeland, not settlers who have mistaken this world for home.
