The Importance of the Lord’s Name

Jun 28, 2026    Pastor Jason Duff

In this Sunday message on the third commandment, Pastor Jason Duff unpacks Exodus 20:7 by defining "taking the Lord's name in vain" not as uptightness about a title, but as using God's name in a way that empties it of meaning — through profanity (which desensitizes culture to the weight of that name, which is exactly why only Jesus' name gets used that way and not Buddha's), through hypocrisy (Moses was barred from the Promised Land for misrepresenting God's character at the rock), and through simply tolerating it when others do it around you. The deeper point is that every Christian carries His name, and how we live either hallows it or hollows it. The message closes with a direct word to anyone who calls themselves a Christian in title only — the name means nothing if it isn't a real relationship — and an invitation to make it real today.
