The Finger of God

Aug 9, 2026    Pastor Rob Salvato

In this Sunday message, Pastor Rob Salvato traces the phrase "the finger of God" through four passages of Scripture — the plague of lice in Exodus 8 (where even Pharaoh's magicians recognized they were outmatched), the Ten Commandments written on stone (which revealed God's standard of righteousness but only proved mankind's inability to meet it), the handwriting on the wall in Daniel 5 (weighed and found wanting — the verdict on every human soul), and finally Jesus writing in the dirt in John 8 — showing how the same finger that once brought judgment and wrote the law stoops down into the dirt for a woman caught in adultery. The message turns on that final scene: Jesus was the only sinless person in the temple that day and the only one with the right to condemn her, yet He chose not to — because the Jewish remedy for sin was a stone, but Jesus' remedy was a cross, and the same One who wrote God's law on tablets of stone was willing to get down in the dirt to lift a broken person back to her feet. The closing call is for anyone stuck in sin or far from God: the finger that once wrote condemnation now beckons restoration — go and sin no more, because Jesus wants to pull you out of the pit, set your feet on solid ground, and give you a new song.
