FCA-poway, california

Micah Salas

My name is Micah Salas, and I am a current high school coach with a passion for investing in the lives of young athletes. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is a ministry that utilizes the platform of sports to reach coaches and athletes with the message of Jesus Christ to help them grow in their relationship with Christ and live it out on a day-to-day basis. FCA provides opportunities for athletes and coaches to come together through huddles, camps, and mentorships to build community and grow spiritually and as leaders.
As I grew in my own faith, I began to feel the Lord calling me to use coaching as more than just a way to compete, but as a way to mentor and pour into the next generation. FCA has given me the opportunity to live that out by creating spaces where coaches and athletes can grow in their relationship with Christ, build strong communities, and learn to use their gifts to serve others. I’m grateful to be part of a ministry that has impacted my life from such a young age and now allows me to invest in the lives of others.

food pantry

Robert Galvez, Sue Galvez, Becky Itzen, Susan Murray

Donated food is collected, organized, checked, and arranged into distributable containers. These are made available for pastors to distribute when ministering to those in need, along with prayer and counseling.  Annually, we prepare and distribute about 100 boxes of food (4 days of food for a family of 4-5) and 150 bags of food (2 days of food for 1 person) each year.

good news club

Tim Hogle (Leader), Marla Hogle, Joyce Blankenship, Theresa Freze, and Nora Schwartz

Fun Bible-based after-school club held at Beaumont Elementary School with about 23 children, many of whom have accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior. Each week is an opportunity for the saved child to grow in their relationship with Christ and for the unsaved child to begin one.

neighborhood food distribution

Mike Holtel

Partnering with a ministry called “Tiempo Nuevo” and the San Diego Food Bank, including volunteers from Calvary Vista, to help distribute food and manage traffic through our parking lot each Wednesday. We provide food for over 1,000 people, with about 500 cars coming through each week. We also get a chance to share the love of Christ and pray with people.

trail life

Sean & Kristen McCrary, James & Lisa Kopitske, Jamie Urbina

Trail Life USA is a faith-based Scout-like organization providing youth mentorship and character development to boys.
Troop CA-3106 meets twice a month with 55 boys ages 5-14. They have raised funds to fill 30 Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes, lead various activities ministering to boys, like day hikes, camping weekends, paintball, placing flags on the graves of veterans, and first aid training. Some families start making church a regular part of their lives, and boys grow in maturity and faith.
